All great info given. I would stress when you apply get your reservation in on that first day and provide a GOOD e-mail address.
Back Country Office relies on the e-mail address so make sure its right. Many times they can't read the e-mail address or one is not provided.
Only other advice would to be flexible. As stated you may not get exactly what you want so be flexible.
